Rising to prominence in the 1970s with jazz fusion groups and a prolific solo career, he blends jazz, Latin, flamenco and world music influences into a distinctive voice on both electric and acoustic guitar. His work often features complex rhythmic structures, melodic inventiveness and an emphasis on acoustic textures in addition to high energy fusion pieces. Di Meola has collaborated with many notable musicians and is respected for both his compositional skills and his ability to adapt across musical styles.

Cielo e Terra is a largely acoustic statement that highlights Di Meola's melodic depth and textural sensibility. The album features pieces such as "Traces Of A Tear" and the title suite "Cielo e Terra", and incorporates percussion and additional musicians to enrich the sound. A reissue appears under EMI-Capitol Music Special Markets in 1996, and the recording emphasizes acoustic guitars, synclavier guitar textures and tasteful percussion contributions. The music on this release balances introspective ballads and expansive compositions, making it a fine example of Di Meola's mature acoustic and world influenced work.

Personnel:

Al Di Meola - Acoustic Guitars and Synclavier Guitar
Airto Moreira - Percussion on selected tracks

Additional musicians on "Traces (Of A Tear)":
Danny Gottlieb - drums
Chip Jackson - bass
Phil Markowitz - keyboards

Label: Manhattan Records / EMI-Capitol Music Special Markets

Tracklist

1.
Traces Of A Tear
Al Di Meola
7:57

2.
Vertigo Shadow
Al Di Meola
3:16

3.
Cielo e Terra
Al Di Meola
10:41

4.
Enigma Of Desire
Al Di Meola
2:45

5.
Atavism Of Twilight
Al Di Meola
5:16

6.
Coral
Al Di Meola
3:23

7.
When Your Gone
Al Di Meola
4:31

8.
Etude
Al Di Meola
7:05

9.
Solace
Al Di Meola
4:42

10.
Traces (Of A Tear) *bonus track*
Al Di Meola
8:57

For CD Player
