PLAYING A THEATER PIPE ORGAN

A Connecticut Valley Theater Organ Society Concert

The Artist
Bob Ralston is one of the most popular organists currently on the American Theater Organ circuit. His talent was brought to national attention when he became a member of the Lawrence Welk Orchestra in 1963. During his 20 years of weekly TV shows with Welk, he was band organist, staff arranger, and piano soloist.

Although the Welk TV show disbanded in 1982, reruns and "specials" continue to this day, and Bob Ralston and his family can often be seen on these nationally syndicated broadcasts. When Ralston is not touring, you can catch him every Sunday morning as the organist at Founder's Church in downtown Los Angeles.

The Instrument
The organ is a 1927 Austin that was originally installed in the Allyn Theatre in Hartford, Connecticut. At the time of its installation it consisted of 3 manuals and 12 ranks.

In the early 1970s the Connecticut Valley Theater Organ Society saved the Austin from destruction when the Allyn Theatre was torn down to make room for the Hartford Civic Center. Installation began at the organ's new home at Shelton Auditorium in 1975 and was completed in 1985. Currently the organ has 17 ranks and can also satellite a baby grand piano.

The Program
This concert was taped "live" before an audience at Shelton Auditorium in Shelton, Connecticut, on September 28, 1991. Bob Ralston plays selections from many American music classics, including songs by Stephen Foster, an Italian medley, and an exciting piano solo. In addition, Ralston is accompanied by the audience for an old-fashioned sing-along.

For DVD Player (North American NTSC)

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0083/0377/1710/files/2026317185446752scan_eeb6f6ae-2564-4328-b356-b4aaacd24fe7.jpg?v=1773956109
