The label is notable for assembling both marquee names and up-and-coming bands, creating compilations that showcase how punk, ska, dub and mellow surf-rock can be woven into accessible, crowd-friendly arrangements. Their releases function as snapshots of a particular scene moment, mapping the stylistic threads that connected festival stages, DIY venues and beachside gatherings in the 2000s.

The Summer Sampler 2008 is a prime example of that curatorial approach: a promotional collection designed to convey the warm, easygoing vibe of the era while spotlighting artists whose sounds were defining summer playlists. Featuring contributions from Slightly Stoopid, Pepper, Rebelution, The Expendables, Passafire, Beautiful Girls and more, the disc balances upbeat reggae-rock anthems, dub-infused grooves and relaxed surf-reggae numbers. Together, the tracks provide a listening arc that suits festivals, beach days and road trips, making the sampler both party-ready and chill-out friendly.

Beyond serving as a convenient introduction to the label’s aesthetic, the sampler documents the collaborative spirit of the participating acts and the networks that kept the scene vibrant—tour circuits, indie labels and word-of-mouth fans all amplified these compilations. For listeners at the time it became a gateway to discovering new favorites; for contemporary listeners it remains a useful time capsule of the late-2000s reggae-rock landscape. Whether used as a nostalgic playlist or a jumping-off point to explore individual bands, the release captures the convivial, sunlit energy that defined a breadth of roots-meets-rock music then and now.

Labels/partners represented on the release include Stoopid Records, Law Records and Silverback Music. Promotional sampler, features a selection of reggae, reggae-rock and alternative artists from the Controlled Substance Soundlabs roster.

Tracklist

1.
No Cocaine
Slightly Stoopid

2.
Freeze
Pepper

3.
Under a Southern Sky
Beautiful Girls

4.
False Rhythms
Slightly Stoopid

5.
Keep Up
The Expendables

6.
Attention Span
Rebelution

7.
Lucy
Pepper

8.
Under a Landslide
Mat McHugh and the Blackbird

9.
Train 1
Slightly Stoopid

10.
War Cry
The Expendables

11.
Ghost Man
Passafire

12.
Iru Kanji
The Supervillains

13.
Sir, Your Fashion
Beautiful Girls

14.
Passed Out
Outlaw Nation

15.
Feeling Alright
Rebelution

For CD Player
