The ensemble is known for combining the power and precision of traditional big band writing with contemporary production, virtuosic soloists and touches of funk, R&B and fusion. Their sound emphasizes tight horn charts, high-energy ensemble passages and accessible melodies that showcase both ensemble playing and soloists. Over the years the band has become a prominent voice in contemporary big band jazz, performing complex arrangements with a sense of fun and technical brilliance.

Act Your Age captures the band's signature blend of swing, modern big band orchestration and guest-star-driven features. The release includes twelve tracks with notable guest appearances and a bonus DVD containing 5.1 surround mixes, solo transcriptions, live concert videos and track-by-track commentary. Produced with the help of Lee Ritenour and featuring guests such as Patti Austin, Lee Ritenour, Chick Corea, Dave Grusin and Nathan East, the project highlights both the band's ensemble power and individual musicianship.
