Kronos has a long history of projects that connect classical string performance with folk, electronic, and experimental music from around the world.

Floodplain is a cross-cultural collection that showcases the quartet’s engagement with music from the Middle East, Central Asia, South Asia, Iran, Turkey, Ethiopia, and the Balkans. The album presents arrangements and interpretations of traditional pieces and contemporary compositions, highlighting rhythmic, modal, and melodic elements outside the Western classical tradition.
