Born in 1873 and remembered for his powerful voice and charismatic stage presence, he made numerous recordings with early gramophone technology that capture both his vocal warmth and dramatic intensity. Slezak frequently sang leading roles in the major German and Italian repertory, earning acclaim for interpretations of repertoire by composers such as Wagner, Verdi and Rossini. His recordings remain valuable historical documents for listeners interested in early vocal technique and the performance practice of his era.

This release, drawn from Historic Recordings and presented under the Lebendige Vergangenheit series, collects a selection of Slezak's historic gramophone recordings from the first decade of the 1900s. The compilation includes arias and extracts recorded for early gramophone issues, preserving both solo items and selections with noted contemporaries. The program highlights Slezak's wide repertoire and range, from dramatic Wagnerian passages to lyrical and virtuosic arias, offering an accessible overview for collectors and students of historic vocal art.

Made in Austria

Mono issue: MONO 89020

Historic Recordings series release.
