However, this track is still very blues-oriented, and the solos never fall into any kind of esoteric or post-modern vein. Drummer Idris Muhammad also gives this tune a subtle backbeat by simulating a conga drum rhythm. Other selections, \"Pot Belly\" in particular, fall back on funk grooves. Here Donaldson and company clearly draw more from soul and R\u0026amp;B than any other genre. They also exact the vibe of these styles very well, proving that post-Swing-Era jazz isn't just about intellectual stimulation or contemplative listening.
