The group helped Prince expand his sound beyond solo studio productions into fuller band arrangements that mixed funk, rock, pop and R&B. Prince led the group as producer, composer and frontman while band members contributed to arrangements and live performances, creating a distinct, energetic sound. Their recordings for Paisley Park and Warner Bros. showcased tight grooves, inventive guitar and synth work, and Prince's wide stylistic range.

This release centers on the song "7" and presents multiple versions of the track, including an album version and an acoustic version. The single is produced, arranged and performed by Prince and The New Power Generation and was issued on Paisley Park/Warner Bros. in 1992. Lyrically and musically the recording reflects the band’s blend of pop accessibility and funk/R&B depth, and it includes a credited sample of the track 'Tramp' by McCrackin and Fulsom. The presentation and design echo Prince’s Paisley Park era aesthetic and production values.

Produced, Arranged and Performed by Prince And The New Power Generation

Composed by Prince

Published by Controversy Music, admin. by WB Music Corp.
