Fronted by Sharleen Spiteri with songwriting and musical direction from Johnny McElhone, the band blends warm, expressive vocals with chiming guitars and roomy production. Over successive releases they balanced radio-ready hooks with roots-tinged arrangements, earning both chart success and a strong fan following. Their sound is notable for its combination of immediate pop songwriting and a subtle, nostalgic rock sensibility, delivered with clear, emotive performances.

This CD maxi single collects the lead track "So Called Friend" alongside three additional songs and highlights the band's polished late-90s studio approach. Production credits on the release include Paul Fox and collaborations with Kenny Paterson and the band, reflecting a mix of outside production and in-house shaping. The single versions and B-sides showcase both the radio-friendly and more intimate sides of the group's music. "So Called Friend" is noted on the sleeve as being taken from the forthcoming album "Rick's Road".

Taken from the sleeve: SO CALLED FRIEND IS TAKEN FROM THE FORTHCOMING ALBUM "RICK'S ROAD".

©1993 Phonogram Ltd (London).
