They rose to prominence in the mid-to-late 1970s with a string of hit singles and high-profile collaborations, most notably with producer Quincy Jones. Known for tight grooves, melodic basslines and upbeat horn-driven arrangements, their music blends raw funk energy with polished pop sensibilities. Signature songs like "Strawberry Letter #23", "Stomp" and I'll Be Good To You helped define their sound and secure their place in mainstream R&B and funk history.

This release is a compilation in A&M Records' Classics series that collects the group's best-known singles and standout album cuts from 1976 through 1984. The disc presents digitally remastered versions of key tracks and highlights the band's evolution from gritty funk grooves to more produced early-1980s pop-funk. With a total running time of 69:34, the compilation serves as both an accessible introduction for new listeners and a concise collection of favorites for longtime fans.

Total time: 69:34

© 1987 A&M Records, Inc.
