He brought the traditional folk instrument to the concert stage and made it central to Hindustani classical performance practice. Renowned for his expressive tone and deep command of ragas, he performed with a subtle balance of melody and rhythmic interplay. Across a long career he collaborated with accompanists and family members, presenting longform raga treatments and evocative instrumental dhuns.

This recording, presented as a shehnai recital with his party, captures the maestro in classical repertoire and lighter dhun settings. The program lists raga performances such as Nand Kedar and Jounpuri in teen taal alongside Purbi and Banarasi dhun. The album credits include supporting tabla and other shehnai players and was supervised and recorded in Bombay, reflecting the live ensemble approach typical of his recital releases. The set showcases both extended raga improvisation and shorter melodic pieces that highlight the shehnai voice.

Personnel and credits: Tabla: Nazim Hussain.
