He blends rock, folk, soul and jazz influences into a singular, improvisational style marked by poetic lyrics and expressive vocals. Known for landmark albums such as Astral Weeks and Moondance, Morrison has consistently explored spiritual and Celtic themes in his songwriting. He performs with a loose, organic band setup and often revisits and reworks material across different sessions.

This release compiles previously unreleased recordings credited as The Unreleased Tapes Volume One and selections from The Philosopher's Stone project. The tracks here were recorded between 1971 and 1984 at various studios and were mixed in the 1990s for this compilation. Produced by Van Morrison and mixed by Walter Samuel on several tracks, the collection highlights outtakes and alternate versions that show Morrison's blending of folk, rock and soul. The set emphasizes raw performances and studio experiments rather than polished commercial singles.

Produced by Van Morrison. Mixed by Walter Samuel on selected tracks.
