AALIYAH: DUST YOURSELF OFF (TRY AGAIN) 8-TRACK PROMO
This ultra-rare 8-track promotional CD for Aaliyah’s “Try Again” offers a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the creation of one of her most iconic hits, featuring multiple exclusive studio mixes, TV versions, instrumentals, and isolated acapella tracks prepared for radio, DJs, and production use. Produced by Timbaland and engineered by Jimmy Douglass, this internal-style promo is an exceptional collectible for serious Aaliyah fans and collectors of late-90s/early-2000s R&B memorabilia.
It does appear that “Dust Yourself Off” may have been an early working or internal promo title before the song was finalized simply as “Try Again.” The chorus repeatedly uses the phrase “dust yourself off and try again,” and promotional/internal discs from that era often carried longer descriptive titles before the commercial single name was locked in. This disc actually has a really interesting detail, because it suggests this promo may have been circulated very early in the song’s development and marketing cycle, before “Try Again” became the official retail title.
