Sid Meier's Gettysburg! is a real-time strategy simulation recreating one of the most dramatic battles of the American Civil War. Sid Meier, creator of some of the gaming world's most popular titles, including Pirates!, Civilization, Railroad Tycoon and Colonizaton, takes his approach to the battlefield in this epic war game.
Sid Meier's Gettysburg! is a mix of real-time action with the realism of a turn-based war game with 3D animated soldiers, cannon, cavalry and generals which move, change formation, fire, retreat and attack. The highly detailed simulation lets the player take charge of the battle while key factors such as morale, formation, terrain and firepower are automatically handled by the computer. In addition to the historical battle, several "what if?" and custom-generated scenarios are included for armchair generals to fight over and over.
Sid Meier is the main man behind such classic games as Pirates and Civilization, so it only makes sense that his first stab at a Civil War game is nothing short of brilliant. While Sid Meier's Gettysburg doesn't even attempt to painstakingly model every weapon, uniform, and other piece of equipment used in this most decisive of Civil War battles, it does a better job of convincingly reenacting the conflict than any other war game we've played.
Gettysburg plays out in real time, unlike other games that model the battle with consecutive turns. Players can slow things down when the action gets out of hand, or speed things up during long marches or while waiting for reinforcements to arrive. The terrain is 3-D and line of sight is modeled, so you aren't going to see that Confederate regiment behind the hill until either your units or theirs crest the ridge. This also makes it possible to hide some units in a tree line for a devastating ambush.
It takes time to limber and unlimber artillery batteries, meaning careful planning is key to victory. Infantry can be ordered to assume one of several formations depending on what you are trying to achieve, and moving them in strong battle lines is essential (and tricky). It's the little touches that really set this game apart, like hearing marching music as the enemy approaches or a battle cry as your troops fix bayonets and charge an enemy position. Gettysburg is a must-have for Civil War buffs and any war-game fan looking for a fun, challenging game.

Computers are like people, each one is different. Unlike console games, a computer game may install and work flawlessly on one system but may need adjustments on another. This is due to a variety of factors, mainly the OS platform running, video card you have, drivers, protection software installed, etc. Many times manufacturers release updates to games to fix bugs and add enhancements. We would be happy to help get the game going on your computer, but ultimately compatibility issues are the responsibility of the buyer. We suggest going to Google and searching for the name of the game along with the words "system requirements" to determine if your system is suitable. Ultimately, we are not responsible for software compatibility problems or publisher's errors.
PLATFORM:
Stated within the auction is what platform the game will work on (ie. Windows, Mac, Linux...) This is a generic statement and specific platform versions (ie. XP, Vista...) will have to be researched by the buyer. Games that came out PRIOR to XP or higher will not specifically state they will work on that release, but only because they came out before those versions were made. Many, if not most, will work on XP or higher with a few quick adjustments. We provide instructions with all items purchased on how to do this adjustment using the Program Compatibility Wizard. If we find out that an item will definately not work on a specific version, we will state it. For DOS games, you may need to play it with a free DOSbox program if the Program Compatibility Wizard does not work.
64-Bit Windows OS Systems:
For 64-bit Operating Systems, older games most likely will NOT work due to 64-bit systems not being able to run 16-bit programming code (most games prior to 2000). For DOS games, you may need to play it with a free DOSbox program.
Macintosh Systems:
For Macintosh programs, most older games will need to be run in Classic Environment if you have a MAC OS X 10.0 - 10.4 version. Please research Google on how to do this, or send us a message for information prior to purchasing. If your MAC OS system doesn't support Classic Environment (ie. MAC OS X 10.5 or Higher OR Intel Macs), you will have to try running it using the free program called SheepShaver, but compatibility is not ensured. Please research prior to purchasing or ask questions.
