Originally aired on ABC in the early 1980s, this series quickly gained immense popularity following the triumph of Indiana Jones’s ‘Raiders of The Lost Ark’. Spanning 22 hours, the show is set in a remote part of the South Pacific, where a young American adventurer and his motley crew of friends engages in perilous escapades, transporting fugitives in a well-used Grumman Goose seaplane. Taking place in 1938, the series encapsulates the essence and charm of an enigmatic romantic period. In a heroic effort to keep pace with the (Indiana) Joneses, Stephen Collins portrays the dashing and charming soldier of misfortune, Jake Cutter, who operates as a freelance pilot on the island of Boragora in 1938. While comparisons to Raiders of the Lost Ark are unavoidable, the series retrospective included as a bonus feature in this six-disc collection reveals that producer Don Bellisario (Quantum Leap, Magnum P.I., and NCIS) initially proposed this concept to networks before Indy ever swung his whip. It was only after the blockbuster success of Raiders that ABC recognized the potential in Monkey. Unfortunately, the series never truly caught on, but nearly three decades later, it remains an immensely enjoyable piece of escapism that infuses each episode with the thrills and adventures reminiscent of old Hollywood Saturday matinees.
The vibrant cast features Corky (Jeff Mackay), Jake’s reliable (when sober) mechanic and partner; Bon Chance Louie (the incomparable Roddy McDowall), the ethically ambiguous French connection, governor, and proprietor of the unsavory Monkey Bar; and Sarah Stickney White (Caitlin O'Hearney), singer and operative. Frequently stealing the spotlight in every scene he graces is Jack, Jake's one-eyed canine companion, who consistently brings humor to the forefront. For villainy, you can’t surpass the Nazis (just check out John Hillerman’s exaggerated accent in the feature-length pilot), yet Monkey ventures into politically incorrect territory with the fearsome Koji (Marta Du Bois) and her samurai accomplice. These tales are mostly presented with a playful tone. The series, which was quite costly for its time, nevertheless carries a B-movie aesthetic that accentuates its quirky appeal. In addition to newly filmed interviews with the cast and creators, the bonus features offer five engaging audio commentaries, as well as comprehensive character profiles and a series "fact file." Rarely seen since its initial airing, Tales of the Gold Monkey holds significance beyond mere nostalgia. Fans of Stephen Collins will undoubtedly find themselves in—wait for it—7th Heaven.

Many, if not most, will work on XP or higher with a few quick adjustments. We provide instructions with all items purchased on how to do this adjustment using the Program Compatibility Wizard. If we find out that an item will definately not work on a specific version, we will state it. For DOS games, you may need to play it with a free DOSbox program if the Program Compatibility Wizard does not work.
64-Bit Windows OS Systems:
For 64-bit Operating Systems, older games most likely will NOT work due to 64-bit systems not being able to run 16-bit programming code (most games prior to 2000). For DOS games, you may need to play it with a free DOSbox program.
Macintosh Systems:
For Macintosh programs, most older games will need to be run in Classic Environment if you have a MAC OS X 10.0 - 10.4 version. Please research Google on how to do this, or send us a message for information prior to purchasing. If your MAC OS system doesn't support Classic Environment (ie. MAC OS X 10.5 or Higher OR Intel Macs), you will have to try running it using the free program called SheepShaver, but compatibility is not ensured. Please research prior to purchasing or ask questions.
